Update: September 2012 – Courtney wanted to freshen up the site and add a little more personality along with additional ways to feature articles. This is the result:
Pizzazzerie is a super fun project built on the Genesis Theme Framework. The site uses several custom templates, custom post types, custom taxonomies, and taxonomy images. Since the theme uses custom fields for the custom post types and the about page, I also included custom metaboxes to make administration easier.
The blog and archive pages were particularly fun. While there are a lot of options for those pages in theme settings, I think the best is to show 1 full post with subsequent post excerpts along with 3 featured images. The post editor also include an in-editor styles dropdown so Courtney, Pizzazzerie’s owner, could more easily visually design her posts.

As part of the redesign, the database was optimized, and the site was transitioned from using Tim Thumb to built in WordPress/Genesis functionality and away from a custom slider that didn’t always load properly.
