Wordpress e-commerce options
November 5, 2008
The ease of use and customization capabilities associated with WordPress make the software highly attractive for website owners, especially with one-click install solutions like that offered on our linux hosting accounts (Don’t be fooled by those charging an arm and a leg + your unborn child to install it for you - choose to pay for tweaks and customizations, not installs).
With the widespread usage of WordPress as both a blogging platform and a CMS, you would think there would be a wide variety of e-commerce shopping cart plugins available. Unfortunately, there are few e-commerce solutions that meet the needs of internet shopkeepers, with the exception of Wp-ecommerce and The Market Theme.
Wp-ecommerce is one of the most widely known solutions, and though known as “buggy,” the latest releases appear to function better than previous versions. WP e-Commerce is easily installed and integrates with Google Checkout, Paypal, Authorize.net, Payment Express and many other trusted payment processors.
Plus: Free Version, Multiple Features.
Minus: We’ve found that running other scripts within your theme may break the functionality of the cart or theme.
Another solution is The Market Theme. Market Theme is an e-commerce WordPress THEME - not just a cart. The Market Theme is a fully featured WordPress theme which transforms a standard installation of WordPress into an customizable e-commerce storefront using an AJAX shopping cart.
Plus: Economical, Customizable, Easy, a WordPress Theme in itself
Minus: If you already have a theme you don’t want to give up, you will have to do some coding or pay a programmer. Learn More about The Market Theme
